Cyclists... anonymous February 5 2009, 06:03:40 UTC
Do you want to elaborate on your cyclist reference?

If you're complaining about cyclist passing you on your left, then you're in the wrong. Read the road rules, they're allowed to :).

And your response seems to be characteristic of the "me-centred apporach" that you're complaining about. Maybe consider how much more difficult it is on the road as a cyclist than sitting in a comfortable metal box.

You could of course _not_ drive ;P.

Oh yeah, and onto the comfort point
well, i got zero sympathy for that one.
I used to have a scooter for going to and from the train station for work. Sure people laughed at me, but I got pretty good on it. It's only really worth using on a solid concrete ocean (like northbridge/city) and I got it cause that's the main area I covered frequently.
If you like a bike and riding then you inherit all the advantages and inconvenieces thereof.
Much like a car.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Thanks for that. I always like reading something that I would like to have written, but fortunately was done by someone with more talent :)

Ok, so I should just let you rant... but... in what way is punishing a cyclist who may have done nothing good? :P Does that mean I should start riding in the middle of the lane and blocking all cars because I'm allowed to?...

The problem is that if everyone becomes rules lawyers without trying to be nice it all goes to shit quite quickly... and it's important to remember that someone in a group misbehaving is in no way an excuse to treat everyone in that group as if they misbehave.

Also.. would it help if I pointed out that the cyclists ignoring the road rules probably irritate me just as much as you? For that matter, I'd argue slow cyclists probably slow me down more than you too :P Combining the two is particularly problematic... on my commute I quite often have to overtake the same guy 3 or 4 times, as they breeze through stop signs/traffic lights/etc where I'm stopped.

And then there the ones who cut off the path on thomas st because it has an extra hill. Nearly all of them do it and I have yet to see one check the road for traffic before pulling out... which is especially galling, since I'm using the road primarily because the slow fuckers make the path unusable :P

And i feel a bit guilty - yes, cyclists on the whole are not the bane of my life - more a passing shiny vexation, quickly forgotten and replaced. There's lots of groups and individuals above them on Rob's List ( ... )

I did pick up that you were probably just venting... but cycling's a bit of a twitchy subject for me :P

I'll admit that it's quite frustrating that the people willing to ignore the rules of society get ahead though.

The downfall of civilization as we know it is certainly imminent.... I have theories... crazy theories. Trish think's I'm mad... I should have left out the bit about Scientology maybe having a point ;)
