Twitter No More

May 23, 2011 14:36

So this weekend I decided to deactivate my Twitter account. However, I'm not going to get on a soapbox about the evils of Twitter. I think it's an incredibly useful tool for what it was designed for: mass dissemination of information to a group. Heck, I'm even still keeping a business Twitter account open to follow my industry ( Read more... )

Twitter had no staying power for me either. I opened an account, abandoned it, closed it when I wanted to start fresh, and now that one sits idle too. The format just isn't my thing.

It had staying power for me, and at times it was fun, but in the end it's just not a format of communication I like. I value substance over chit chat.

I really dislike Twitter as well...last weekend proved it to me, that no one can possibly read everything important on there, because everyone uses it as IRC. I certainly don't use it, and it's taken me over a year to post what some post in a week...which means I don't have any free time like others do :)

I may wind up closing mine, leaving only the LAFFball one open, but apparently no one reads that one either :P

Following things like LAFFball and such is what it's designed for. Unfortunately the mass use of it as a chat session makes it so it's nearly impossible to see an individual tweet.

I admit, I've gravitated more towards Twitter than to any of the other Soc Net apps around. I never liked Facebook and I'm not too keen on it's MyFur clone. FA really isn't usefull for airing anything with any depth. That leaves LJ, which more and more people seem to be abandoning.

The cool thing with Twitter is it cuts down on my Tweet-like clutter on LJ. Unfortunately that means I rarely post here any longer. It works great for me to keep in touch with folks and isn't as demanding of my time as Yahoo or AIM tend to be.

I particularly like twitter, as I'm not much of a journal/blogger. I think I have an addiction as I pretty much follow it constantly if I'm around a PC or at least have anything related bounce to my phone. It's mostly where I follow contacts as well, so it works well with me ^^

but I still think you're cool! ;-)

Maybe I'll miss it and pop back on eventually. Heck, eventually you are forced into certain communication methods whether you like them or not.
