Oh my God, I'm so sorry. I am so terrified of theft. It's just so awful. Especially now that I have a laptop. My computer is my life. YOU COULD JUST UP AND STEAL MY LIFE. I'm glad they left your passports so you can get home properly.

Happy birthday.

That's awful. I'm so sorry you had such a crappy end to your birthday. I don't know if it's even possible to file an insurance claim on items stolen when you're living abroad, but if it is, I hope you can to help replace some of what you lost. I would be beside myself if someone stole my laptop.

Ughhhhhh such a violation. I am SO sorry.

But yes, SO glad that they didn't take your ID. I can't imagine having my passport stolen when I am traveling in another country. Worse. Nightmare!
