I read something today in which someone clearly didn't understand the etymology of the term "cisgender." The person in question was a chauvinist on some part of the internet I generally try to avoid, but the comment made me realize that there are probably a lot of people who don't fully understand the term and where it comes from, including the

I knew the meaning of the word "cisgender" (partly because an almost disproportionate number of my friends are transgender, and partly because I spend more time on Tumblr than is probably reasonable or healthy), but I didn't know the etymology! Interesting stuff, thank you. :)
