Soundtrack of My Life

Dec 10, 2007 20:20

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie.

Opening Credits: Paradise by the C - Bruce Springsteen.
An appropriately upbeat instrumental.

Waking Up: You Can’t Take It With You - The Alan Parsons Project.
Realistic optimism. Or optimistic realism.

First Day of School: American Pie - Don McLean.
Hmmm.

Falling in Love: It Takes Two - from Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim.
At least it’s a love song.

Fight Song: So What? - Metallica.
Perfect.

Breaking up: A Year Ago Today - Delta Goodrem.
I’m not ashamed of having her on there either, and it is a breakup song, or a looking-back-at-a-breakup song.

Prom (formal, whatever): They Can’t Take That Away From Me - Robbie Williams.
A good swing number about friendship.

Life: It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me - Billy Joel.
Yes.

Mental Breakdown: Girl Anachronism - The Dresden Dolls.
Hell yes. The most mental breakdown song in the 238 hours of music in my library.

Driving: Doctor Who on Holiday - Dean Gray.
Kind of weird, but I could imagine it. The original might be more appropriate, but I do love this album of remixes.

Flashback: Lucifer Sam - Pink Floyd.
Psychedelic!

Getting Back Together: Smoke - Ben Folds Five.
Forgetting the past and moving along. Quite appropriate.

Wedding: Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd.
I’m doing very well here. I love it.

Birth of a Child: Control - The Vulpine.
Hopefully not.

Final Battle: Apocalypse Please - MUSE.
“It’s time for something biblical”. I like this soundtrack.

Death Scene: A Man for All Seasons - Al Stewart.
Death by religious fundie. Oh dear.

Funeral: Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Nice.

End Song: Love Knits the Universe Together - Scott Edgar and the Universe.
I love it!

Okay, now I’m going to say what I would personally choose, based on songs I like.

Opening Credits: Journey of the Sorceror - The Eagles.
The most brilliant opening credits music ever.

Waking Up: Hope Is.
Sorry, I had to choose one of my own.

First Day of School: With a Little Help from My Friends - The Beatles.
Don’t think this needs much explanation, but it was inspired by its use in the film Across the Universe.

Falling in Love: The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight - Blind Guardian.
What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic.

Fight Song: Eye of the Storm - 1200 Techniques.
I made a revolution. Or something.

Breaking up: Landed - Ben Folds.
Folds writes the best love songs.

Prom (formal, whatever): Well, Did You Evah? - from High Society by Cole Porter.
A much better commentary on what wonderfully enjoyable farces such things are.

Life: It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me - Billy Joel.
Too good to change.

Mental Breakdown: Beats of My Dying Heart - Jewelia.
Awesome (if depressing) song from an awesome album by an awesome songwriter.

Driving: Old School Hollywood - System of a Down.
Because of the sheer number of times I’ve listened to that song in the car.

Flashback: High Hopes - Pink Floyd.
For obvious reasons. Might choose the Nightwish cover version, actually...

Getting Back Together: Gamble Everything for Love - Ben Lee.
Should be self-explanatory.

Wedding: Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd.
Going to keep this one, it’s even got a bit in it which would be perfect for a waltz.

Birth of a Child: Annabel - Don Henley.
Had to choose a lullaby, and Ben Folds is already represented (he wrote one of the best in Gracie). Not intending either of those names for my child, however.

Final Battle: Take a Bow - MUSE.
Apocalypse Please was awesome but this is the most epic song MUSE ever did. Especially the version I have with full orchestra and choir backing them.

Death Scene: The Call of Ktulu - Metallica.
Epic and a half.

Funeral: Dance While the Sky Crashes Down - Jason Webley.
I’m not kidding. I want this song played at my funeral.

End Song: Going Home (Theme from “Local Hero”) - Mark Knopfler.
The song I played at my grandfather’s funeral and a great concluding piece.
