dreads?

Does anybody have any recommendations for someone in the area that works with dreadlocks? Mine are about eight months old and have locked up nicely, but I have fairly curly caucasian hair, and my ends simply don't want to lock. I clockwise rub and backcomb and palmroll, but I think i'd like to let somebody else do it because I think the fact that ( Read more... )

I've been wondering the same question myself.
Mine are over a year old.

I've realized that rubbing them actually makes them worse, cuz the oils in your hands break them down, just like how conditioner would.

I actually use a crochet hook to maintain mine, you stick it in at a 45 degree angle and just go up and down really fast and it pulls the dead hair back up into the dread.

Also make sure to get yourself some dread shampoo, like Dread Head HQ, it doesn't contain all the fancy stuff that normal shampoo has so it won't break your dreads down when you wash.
They also make a wax that you can use to help them form better, however I don't want to use that, cuz if you decide to get rid of them, you will be able to salvage more hair and probably get it into a bob cut instead of having to shave it all off.

I've heard about the crochet technique...I plan on going this route in a bit once I get them a little tighter...I have a few loops that I'd like to work back into their respective dreads.

I use Dr. Bronners all natural hemp-based castile soap. It doesn't contain any sulfates or sulfides or scents. I've used dreadhead wax sparingly, but I'm paranoid about over-waxing, so mostly I'm letting time and clockwise rubbing take over.

I'm going to post something in the Buffalo community also, because I used to live there and I am still in Buffalo quite frequently. I'll let you know if I get any responses!
