Because I promised Liz I'd post this, here it is.

The Bush family, their values and their allegiances. (Hint: the latter two probably aren't shared by too many of their compatriots.) It's long, but it's erudite, informative and well worth reading ( Read more... )

I don't have time to read the article right now, but I definitely will tomorrow, but the main thing is...

OH MY GOD, come to Boston this July! Please please do! I can wave the hate-Bush banner outside! Come! Come! Come!

COME!!

Ok, I'll stop now, but it couldn't be more exciting, since I would be in Boston at that time, and well... welll... pleeeeeeeeeeeease!

Have I begged enough? You know you want to. You're DYING to wave the banner. And let some good come out of Bush! (Unless you're too scared to meet me, which is understandable as well. But.)

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!

Haha! I wondered if you'd be there then. Of course I'd love to see you if you are!

The thought of coming over is very appealling, especially as that visa curtain will come down in October; after then, everyone (no matter what age they are, even babies) who wants to visit the US has to go to London or Belfast and queue in person to get a visa. Not very likely, so I don't see myself getting over for a while after that - at least, not until a Democrat government comes in and reverses the stupid rule. But then again, that might only be a couple of months...!

But whether or not I do come over depends on several other things, which are sort-of up in the air at the moment. I'll definitely keep you updated!

Mwah!

Ok, first of all:

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Second of all:

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYY!!!!!!

Third of all:

The visa thing? How fucking WEIRD?! I think you should definitely take advantage of this opportunity. Not that I'm biased, or anything, but Boston is beautiful in the summer. It really really is. And somehow, I knew Jo would make a special visit. Heh. That wench, she wouldn't visit ME in Boston, but as long as there's something luring her in. ;) (Jo, just kidding. Really!)

Mwaaaaaah!

You're coming to Boston!* I will come up and meet you. I'll put in tomorrow for the time off. Yay. this will make me all sorts of happy. :) I can't wait!

and for the Minx story thing, you HAVE to tell it in public, especially if she won't like it. does it involve marriage or babies? can it? please? heheheheh. I am evil.

*(Jo's magical ability to read into any post exactly what she wants to see can be a little disorienting the first time you witness it used. you may want to sit down.)

I will read the article in the morning, my brain is way too fried right now, but thanks for the link. you kick ass.

Love and YaY,
Jo

Oh, that would be just wonderful. Much better to meet everyone than to spend my half holiday being a political geek. (Can I say this makes me feel all flattered and humble?) I will let everyone know as soon as I do, although it probably won't be for several weeks yet.

And as for minx's story; well, see below.

If you come to Boston I will do my damnedest to be there too. Or in the vicinity if all hotels are occupied by raving liberals, God bless their civil-rights-loving souls.

The story: you can decide whether to tell me publicly or by email what you want, bearing in mind that a public revelation may result in a reciprocal, public baring of my own emotions about it (ie, if I don't like it, I may well say so). How bad can it be, after all? I *think* I can be fairly sure that it won't be mpreg, or Sirius and Remus adopt a baby/puppy, or a threesome.

And also: the Rezillos! Ah, British power pop.

Your knowledge of obscure popular music always surprises me!

I'll confess my secret. I have a couple of those Rhino collections. Well, more than a couple; I'm addicted. But they have at least two that are dedicated to British power pop of the 70s. Great stuff-- far superior to the American attempts at the same genre.

This reminds me of a music-related question I think I'll pose in my own lj so as not to spam yours any more.

Liz's is the top comment, so she'll have seen your post! It was a good review; I never stop being amazed at how utterly amoral the Bushes are.

What particularly angered me when I was reading this was remembering a news report I'd seen the night before about the hidden numbers of American servicemen who are being sent home mutilated from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The reporter was interviewing soldiers at a rehab centre where they were all being fitted with new limbs and so on. He asked one serviceman who had lost both legs whether he thought the cause had been worth his loss. The guy was silent for a moment, then said that if it brought democracy and freedom to Iraq, then it was worth it.

I felt humble watching him. The thought that Bush and his cronies are blithely expecting such sacrifices from other human beings simply in order to make themselves and their associates richer; well, words fail me, actually ( ... )
