As spacedye_vest asked me if I'd talk about this film on lj, and her word is my command...

If anyone gets a chance to see Los Diários de Motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries), go, for God's sake. You won't see a better film all year (and I say that as someone who loved Spiderman 2).

Here be spoilers... )

Wasn't it just? Right down to the slightly sepiaed tinting which made me sigh happily.

I did, I loved it. I'm glad to say that Buenos Aires looked just like I fondly imagine it -- airy and elegant, it reminded me of Paris. And I loved that accent. I know you said his accent wasn't perfect, but I loved listening to them, anyway.

I think you're right about the Manics in that interview. It's not that they're mellowing -- what you said about them being themselves with more years on their back is perfect in a sort of poetic way.

And I'm good! Work is carrying on; at the moment I can't really afford to stop, alas!

*hugs*

I really want to see it. I skipped over the spoilers, because I really really really want to see it. Unfortunately, my life is so fucking busy right now, I don't even know when I'll be able to, not to mention that all my movie-watching has to coincide with another person wanting to see something. Basically. But I will try. Because I really, really, really want to see it!

And oh! JoJo said she's dragging me to see them when they tour around here. Don't you just love her to bits? I know I do! :D :D :D

Yeah, Jo just forgot to tell you that there seems to be a serious chance they won't tour North America. Jo is Grrrrrrrrrrr about it. and just to spam Roche's journal, your disks went in the mail today

I loved the article. Heheheh... I think, you reach a point where you've read too much about them and too many interviews with them in too short a time... and well, I really LIKE them. As artists. As People. I think if this keeps up, it's only a matter of time before I really think of James and Nicky like they're members of the family; cousins I never see but who I still love. I also realize that I NEED to stop listening to The Holy Bible more than twice every day, but other than the fact I fear it will drive me insane, it's just fucking GREAT music (She is Suffering is playing as I type this). Have I hugged all of you lately for this new obsession? yeah, much, much love.

Love and Candy,
Jo

I know they were setting off to 'crack' America when Richey Edwards disappeared; I don't know if they've been back since. As I said to Liz, I hope they do.

They always come across in interviews as people you could go for a drink with. Well, maybe not Sean -- he's a bit weird. But the others do. You could compile a book of great Nicky Wire quotes, of all the brilliant things he's said over the years. One of my favourites was when they got into a spat with Billy Bragg for taking their own portaloo to Glastonbury. If you've been looking around, you might have seen this; but then again, you might not. It's is one of my favourite takes on the whole Crappergate saga with Billy Bragg who, as Nicky said, came out of it all looking like a complete twat.

I'm glad they're giving you so much pleasure (never thought I'd say that about The Holy Bible).

For some annoying reason, the photos on that link don't seem to be loading properly (or is it a Mac thing...?) Anyway, they're worth seeing, so if it's not working for you, go in through the front page of the site, then click on the Timewaster link, then on to Flush 'n' Burn, and it should load properly.

I skipped your spoilers-- and thanks for warning for them-- as I still haven't seen it. It hasn't opened here yet. "Shaun of the Dead" seems to be taking up all available indie screens.

But thanks for the link. I love Nicky Wire. This line is perfect: . "You know when your favourite band gets liked by someone you really hate? Well the Manic Street Preachers were always my favourite band."

And this was weirdly sweet and sad: "I never wanted to be anything else but the bloke from the Manic Street Preachers."

I think you'll love the film. Of course, you won't need to read the subtitles. Actually, that's a thought: you can let me know if what we see on the screen and what the actors are saying differs in any significant way.

As I said to Jo and as you probably already know, I love Nicky Wire too, and I love him best when he's being completely outrageous.

I have plans to see that movie when it opens here next week. I've been wanting to see it for months and months. Now I'm even more keen to go knowing that you liked it.

You'll definitely like it, especially if you've been waiting to see it for ages (I was too). Let us know what you thought of it after you've seen it. Have you seen the trailer? Here. (It can take a little while to load in, even on broadband).
