A trip to Kinghorn

Jul 31, 2024 23:08

31st July, 2024, was a beautiful day of sunshine and warmth in eastern Scotland, and after much procrastination I persuaded myself to leave the house in the mid-afternoon and headed down to Waverley Station, where I bought a return ticket to Kinghorn. This was the small town where my mother's parents lived and where my mother grew up. I hadn't been ( Read more... )

This looks like such a nice day trip! The beach and seafront buildings are my favourite. I hope to visit a little seafront town/village on my next trip there.

Kinghorn is a lovely place to be on a day like the day I visited it, but the coastal villages in the East Neuk of Fife - Elie, St. Monans, Pittenweem, Anstruther and Crail - are probably even more worthy of a visit. They're all beautiful, but a bit further from Edinburgh and less easy for me to get to.

Pittenween, Anstruther and Crail are on my list. Also Crovie lol. I’ll have to add Elie and St. Monans! I haven’t heard of the last two.

I wish there were more places around Toronto that I could day/weekend trip to on public transit but our transit, outside of Toronto, isn’t that great. I’m happy my mom and I celebrate our birthdays with weekend getaways though.

I don't know where Crovie is. I'm evidently not the brainious expurt in geography that I like to think I am! I'm going to have to look it up on Google maps now. As for Elie and St. Monans, I visited Elie a few years ago and discovered that it's a lovely place. Historic buildings and a fabulous beach. I've never been to St. Monans, mainly because the main road (and the bus) passes along the back of the town instead of going through it, but from the photos I've seen of it, it's a really nice place too.

Yeah, that was a fabulous day. I'm quite anxious about travelling too far from home with my health being as it is just now, but I'm glad I went out and enjoyed the sunshine and the peace and quiet. It's absolute hell here in Edinburgh during the Festival.
