Get It Right: Rodney's feeling guilty about something, but John just doesn't get it. Eventually he does though. Warning for mentions of character death and slightly AU. Spoilers for 3x20, 4x01. ~2200 words.
really well written as usual, only the subject matter was disturbing, and that is the point of a good piece of literature, to move the reader, so thank you for writing it :)
I actually read this earlier this week, but UGH I just read-and-ran as I tried to survive the onslaught of work etc. This was such a nice reprieve, though, and I wanted to make sure I came back and commented on it.
I *love* this. You've got an instinctive feel for the power dynamics of a D/s relationship, and I adore how you didn't idealize it. John screws up by not paying attention, Rodney is a brat, but in the end it is a loving power exchange that says SO much about their relationship. And, honestly, I've always seen Rodney as a smart-ass-submissive who needs subspace just to unwind. You portrayed that head!canon of mine perfectly! ♥
HAHA! Thank you so much for commenting. I am a huge, huge, huge fan of the whole BDSM lifestyle (as in reading, not practicing) but I've never tried to write it and I WAS SO AFRAID I WAS GOING TO GET EVERYTHING WRONG, even though it was just a small glimpse into that lifestyle.
But yes! Thank you for commenting! I always adore your comments.
No, you got it right on. I admit, the "perfect Dom" phenomenon is one reason I got tired of Xanthe's stories, and won't even read KieraMarcos' BDSM SGA epic; it's no different than any other relationship, with misunderstandings and mistakes and trust issues. You captured that without making it a dramatic problem, and that is something that is far too rare in BDSM fic overall. <3
