good. I start my first elementary tomorrow. Grade 2-3 split- but little on the 2 ability side, I'm guessing. I've worked two full weeks at the high school doing lots of p.e. and shop (fuuuuccckk.. those are not easily managed environments). I was the haida teacher for two days: it was pretty great. an elder came in and did vocabulary. The kids were quite fluent by grade 11.

Things are so different here, teaching wise. Few parents breathing down your neck- just the occasional crushing wave of student and parent apathy. Sometimes I am boggled by the poor performance of students who do not have any disability (save their life circumstances). There are strong students though, and every student so far has been interesting and somewhat pleasant.

When I read your post I sometimes thing you would be happy in high school where kids are seeking out the teacher as a moral compass. What made you pick elementary?

I like the idea of less breathy parents. Mine really aren't that bad at all though - I'm just paranoid.

I wanted high school, that's what I applied for. But it would have been FSL, and I scored higher - so they put me in Immersion elem. I don't mind it, and I might even stay here. But I do think that it's possible that I make more sense in high school. Gotta say though, it's slightly intimidating... we'll see. I think in a few years...

17 of 20 grade two are flagged for social/home issues.

It was a crazy day. Now I have nine days more in the same class.

If you can take elementary you can take high school.
