So i got asked into my boss' office yesterday afternoon and one of the accounting ladies was in there. i was like "am i in big trouble?" and they said, no, no, yuk yuk yuk.  basically the issue has to do with my negative vacation balance. as a salary employee, i acrue paid time off at the rate of a cripple through quicksand. but, a certain amount ( Read more... )

This makes two mentions of that Gwen Stefani song on my FPAGE in 24 hrs. Sinister forces are at work, I know it.

N-E-WAY

I despise jobs where they're technical about time off. I double dare mine to ever say anything to me about it. Have you ever been in early or stayed late? Did that get taken into the equation about how much time you 'owed?'

Basically, I just hate stupid employers. Yours is being a douche.

thanks for the validation. i feel the same way- i'm almost always 15-20 minutes early, i take 10 minute lunches to eat a can of soup most of the time, and of course none of that counts. it makes me really mad. its not like this is a huge corporation and i'm about to walk out and stiff them for the time. please.

I'm not trying to get you fired, but you seriously need to bring that up. It's not fair that the time you spend there outside of normal work hours aren't counted. The least they can do is reduce your 'penalties.'

wow, that sucks about not getting paid for last week. I can't believe they can do that. Will that at least make it so your negative vacation time isn't quite so large? I mean, they can't count that week as vacation time if they are not paying you, right?

also, if you don't want more bad news then don't read the journal update I'm about to post.

Those sons of bitches. That smacks of discrimination. Changing your pay without notice because you're a mother? Yep, a call to HR is warranted now.

we don't even have HR. this is a tiny company. and everyone who works here hates it, i think. except the upper tier, b/c they get paid alot to do nothing.

Do you have any kind of workers Union? I would consider looking into something in the law about mothers and time off. I agree with lola this sounds like mother discrimination.

Family and Medical Leave Act.

have a look at it..it is availble to read online..but I don't know what you will find about pay...you just have to have the same (or an equal) job available to you...there should however, be a way for them to work it out so that those sick days you had get catagorized as something other than vacation. I am not sure they are obligated to pay you for them though..anyway, look up the act.
