In the 1930's the U.S. Public Health Service Told 399 African-American men that they had been selected for a free social club and burial society called "Miss Rivers' Lodge." These men were conveneintly not told that they were chosen because they had all contracted Syphilis. For 40 years this U.S. Public Health Service let the disease go ( Read more... )

I am. It's not really as disgusting as it is cruel. I mean, they weren't even informed so they could go get help or something. It's horrible to think they did that "just to see what happens".

ive heard worse. ive heard worse things weve done. ive heard much worse things other countries have done. also not that the men selected were all african american. this also plays into it. it wasnt just a study on the ravages of syphilis on the human body, but also a study on the effects on an african american body, but where was the study on whites, or asians, or native americans? there was none.

makes it a little worse, doesnt it?

Mainly because they weren't given the moral standings of white men. It's a big part in what makes it so horrifying.
