Oh no! That's the click of impending money shortage from sudden computer purchase!

Dunno much about canadian apples, but google turned up this.

yeah i was just looking at the listings for the closest one. it's still about 40 minutes away from me. >_O i think i'll just try to remove all the pirated software, back up my documents and keep using it until it dies, then switch to my desktop until i can get it repaired.

thank *god* for applecare. i'm covered until 2009 for everything short of dropping it.

Got an iPod? They're pretty handy for backup too. Don't delay backing up the most important things, like stuff in your HOME folder. Especially your email addresses and contacts and (for me, at least) photos.

Get thee to an Apple dealer ASAP and don't leave until they diagnose (and possibly replace) your hard drive. Good luck.

When my hard drive died on my Powerbook, it was a mere minutes after that clicking noise started.

MINUTES?! oh crap. >_< i haven't powered it up since it began clicking. maybe i should make a list of the things i need to grab, from most to least important, lol.

what do you think their position is on pirated software? =X

There is carbon computing on Queen East (north side of quenn about a block and a half eat of Broadview) Don't know where you are staying but that's the best one I know of other than the apple store in eatons center.

when i was in north bay i took it to an independent guy as well, who change the drive in his basement. he did in a mere 2 minutes (although we stayed much longer and chatted with him) and saved me a trip all the way into toronto! some of those guys are definitely sketch but i am grateful to have had a good experience with him. if only there was an independent servicer in courtice!

Take it to an authorized Apple service provider (not necessarily an Apple Retail Store) and, if it's still under warranty, they'll repair or replace it for you. Back up your important data now. They don't care about pirated software, unless it's Apple software. Even then, they'll have a hard time proving it.

But whatever you do, do it soon. Once the mechanical problems start, they don't waste time.
