Am I a terrible person for assuming that anyone who has 'III' or any variant thereof after their name is an insufferable, incompetent tool?

Well, I do have to thank them for properly labeling their offspring. :)

It depends. I've had kitties with titles like "Reverend Doctor" and suffixes like "Esq," and "the third" tacked onto their names. They've all turned out just fine. Then, of course, there was my parakeet, Baron von Chickenpants.

Sometimes pretentious-sounding titles are misleading, and the person or kitty or bird behind them is actually quite sweet underneath it all.

Possibly, but only if they introduce themselves that way. Blame the parents.

Blame the parents.

For truth in advertising?

I don't think my son's insufferable or incompetent. A bit obtuse occasionally, but not incompetent. :/

That would make him the single counter-example of which I am aware... :)

Why thank you Sir. And really, we only gave him the III because Sr. and Jr. were taken. :)
