No Stone City Beltane for me; GP is sick and is not going anywhere this weekend. I think I will stay home, build a boat, and work on the design for a new 6 D-cell vibrator. Working name: The Love Baton.
Sorry to hear you guys aren't coming. I hear you are building a canoe. I think I'd rather test drive _that_. Do you think you could make a small scale viking ship? I saw one free on C.L. and have wanted one ever since.
One thing at a time -- I'm not entirely sure my woodworking skills are up to even this simple canoe, let alone a viking ship. If it works out, the next project is to clone it; my mother wants one. After that, I will entertain the idea of other boat projects. :)
Well, I know the basic principles, but I'm not clear on several critical steps, most importantly lining out the strakes. There's a book on building small clinker vessels called Ultralight Boatbuilding that is reputed to be quite good. The last word in traditional techniques is probably Howard I Chapelle's Boatbuilding. I, unfortunately, don't have copies of either book.
