the melodramatic question would be "where did i go wrong" but that's just... well melodramatic. a better question would be "why did i go wrong" but that's still a miss. nope, i think the real question is "why am i still haunted" (especially by things a lifetime in the past)

If you are haunted by something in the past, perhaps you can look at the new job as a way to start over. The past cannot be changed (no matter how much we might want to). Dwelling on our mistakes of the past only serves to make you miss out on your present. Recognize your mistakes, try and learn something from them, and then try and put them behind you.
I have two methods for this. Method #1: when I find my mind going over & over the same past mistake, I imagine a box (with a lid) that I picture putting that thought into. It sounds silly, but sometimes it works.
Method #2: I like to recite one of my favorite Shel Silverstein poems to myself.
"All the WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDAs
Layin' in the sun,
Talkin' bout the things
They WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDA done...
But those WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDAs
All ran away and hid
From one little did."
