Even more WTF moments

Both at work and on-line there are lots of horror stories about how long it took people to get to work and how highways are at a standstill. I mean, I understand that we were only supposed to get some flurrying so it's a bit of a surprise to get snow. But, at least in the city, it's just a dusting. I get that there's such a thing as black ice but I ( Read more... )

I think it's because of what time the flurries hit. When I left at 6:50 I couldn't see Bill's tire tracks out of the driveway...so it was within an hour that we got an inch. At rush hour...so they couldn't get any sanding trucks on the road before all the commuters were already out there sliding and crashing all over the place.

I think (at least around here) the problem was that rain turned to snow, and because it was just a light dusting, the city didn't take it seriously with the salting and the plowing. Of course, I brushed a good 2-4 inches off my car this morning, and my (unplowed) road was crappy driving, but not terrible. It took me 1 hour 15 minutes to make what normally takes 20min, and it wasn't because the roads were bad, but the traffic was stop and go the entire way. I suspect that was a combination of residual back-up from some bad, early-morning accidents and pure idiocy on the part of first-time NE Winter drivers. . .

Oh, and sitting here in the Manch, the plow/sand truck just drove by and sanded our street for the first time all day.

Perhaps I am just far removed from the difficulties. And so, despite the intermittent suckiness, I do the dance of "Yay - public transportation."
