To stimulate the economy

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the government sending all working Americans money to stimulate the economy, is retarded? I mean, they are pretty much just taking money from our back pocket, doing some distracting move with their right hand and then the money magically appears in their left hand.  Where is that money coming from?
