The point of Twitter is to know what the people you're following are doing every second of every day. Which sounds tedious. And it is. I joined to follow Neil Gaiman, who updates with pictures of himself walking the dog or on his way to check up on his bees (which all ends up in his blog anyway).
I'm also following Stephen Fry, who calls his followers "darlings" and frequently voices his desire for "voddy", and a bunch of other celebrities such as David Mitchell, who only seems to update in order to post links to his weekly column in the Guardian, but that's always funny.

This is, in my opinion, the point of Twitter.

I know I look like O_o I thought it was an accurate representation of me. Actually the picture adding did not go well last night - kept telling me that the picture was too large or something and I haven't got around to looking at it again. But I did find it quite exciting that I now have two followers :p

I think you need a 100x100 pixel image. I dunno whether it'll resize it for you; I resize all of my icons myself.
