Any time I get a new computer or have to reinstall Windows or anything, the first thing I do is open Internet Explorer, download and install Firefox and never touch IE again :)
I can't remember which version I first used. It was still called Phoenix back then (and then a brief foray into "Firebird"), but I don't think it'll ever be as blazingly fast as it was then, because of how light-weight it was. It took just milliseconds to load.
Same here. I'm having some issues with it (Ubuntu) though. Firefox takes over the sound from all other apps (i think this is to do with Flash) and it freezes up -requiring a CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE- and even crashes a lot.
I remembered having similar issues after upgrading to gutsy when a friend said that he always reinstalls rather than upgrades, so that's my plan for today. I'm pretty hopeful it'll work, but it's a pity about the upgrade program if it's so.
I have had the same problem with Firefox and sound, although I've never needed to restart X as a result. Usually just killing Firefox (either by closing the window or using killall -9 firefox-bin in the terminal) takes care of things.
The automatic upgrade tool does leave a bit to be desired. It completely killed my Ubuntu install on my old laptop when going from Feisty to Gutsy, and it led to an hour or so of tweaking the Grub menu to get our desktop to boot properly after upgrading to Hardy (though the latter was probably my fault for (1) not paying attention to what I was clicking during the upgrade and (2) having a weird custom setup for Grub since I've had up to 4 Linux installs plus Windows on the computer at the same time -- It's true, I do like to make my life difficult sometimes). However, my laptop upgrade was mostly flawless.

I'm actually using Firefox 3 already as well -- it was included in the Ubuntu system upgrade to 8.04.
Good stuff!
