Friday I went to the cinema with friends, and watched the so long awaited:
SUCKER PUNCH
STORY
In the 1960's, a 20-year-old girl nicknamed "Babydoll" (Emily Browning) is institutionalized by her stepfather at the Lennox House for the Mentally Insane after she is blamed for the death of her younger sister. Blue Jones (Oscar Isaac), the asylum's orderly, is bribed by Babydoll's stepfather into faking the signature of the asylum's psychiatrist, Dr. Vera Gorski (Carla Gugino), to have Babydoll lobotomized so she can neither inform the authorities of what really happened nor reclaim her recently deceased mother's fortune. As she enters the institution, she notices details of its layout and security. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the mental facility.
CRITISISM
This story has 3 layers of reality. The real world, a world Babydoll envisions to endure the mental facility, and another fantasy world she uses to get the four items she needs to escape.
There were no logical flaws in that and I think it’s a very nice idea, but somehow it didn’t work as it should have… The passages in the first layer fantasy seemed a bit lengthy, whereas the sequences in the second layer fantasy were a bit out of context and seemed to full of effects. I liked those nonetheless. The music was exactly my taste and those slow motion action scenes Zack Snyder uses so often, they totally work for me!
CONCLUSION
This film could have been totally awesome, but somehow along the way it failed. I can’t even put my finger on it, strange… Watching this movie in cinema was no waste of money, but watching it at home is also sufficient. I had hoped for more but it’s
3 out of 5 points!
Saturday I rented some DVDs I Hadn’t seen until now, here are two very short reviews:
IRON MAN
When wealthy industrialist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is forced to build an armored suit after a life-threatening incident, he ultimately decides to use its technology to fight against evil.
I think this film was no revelation but I enjoyed it very much. Tony Stark is handsome, smart and a badass and that’s what runs the film. In addition to that his assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is his right hand and balances his weaknesses out. (Also a film that starts with ACDCs “Back in Black” cannot be bad XD )
4 out of 5 points
BODY OF LIES
CIA agent Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordania, but while he tries to capitalize on the intelligence he has uncovered he must also be wary of the double-dealings of his boss Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) in America.
I would say it’s a good film, but for my taste way to much politics… The cast is great and the story is full of lies, betrayal and untold secrets (as the English title implies), but also it is very long and full of brutality. (I think the German title doesn’t fit at all: “Der Mann der niemals lebte” eng. = the man who never lived) Maybe I was not in the mood for such a film and it deserves a better rating. But for now it’s only

Hope you enjoyed reading!
