apparently yesterday by my work, a construction company did not "call before you dig". so what did they hit? telephone fiber optic lines, about as thick as my fist. they estimate 3 days without phones and 500K-1million dollars worth of damage.

It's not much better here today with the phone lines. Now we have them operating - but it sounds like people are trying to talk to us while holding a vacuum cleaner up to the phone. It's awful. I think it was actually better when they were down & we had all the calls forwarding to everyone's cell phones.
