"Dr. Foster, I've got the Presidents secretary on line one."

"Thank you Heidi." Gillian pushes the glowing button on her phone and presses the handset to her ear.

"This is Dr. Foster."

"Hi Dr. Foster. I'm calling on behalf of the President. He was wondering if you wanted the blender in Navy or Red…" Gillian's eyes widen, while her eyebrows shoot up.

"Excuse me?"

"The President…he was wondering if you wanted the blender in Navy or Red."

"Um, red please, our kitchen is red."

"Okay thank you."

"Sure." Gillian hangs up the phone and clacks her way to Cal's office.

"Hello love."

"Did you honestly tell the President we needed a blender?"

"What?"

"Did you or did you not tell the President that we needed a blender?"

"I haven't said anything to anyone about that. Why?"

"The President's secretary just called me and asked if we wanted our blender in red or blue." Cal smirks softly.

"Weird." Gillian glares at Cal.

"CAL! You didn't."

"I didn't tell him anything. I might have snuck a note into his invitation." Gillian shakes her head.

"Oh my god." Cal gets up and wraps his arms around Gillian.

"Relax Gill…it was a joke, he knows that."

"I still can't believe you did that…like honestly." Cal smiles and kisses Gillian.

"I love surprising you." Gillian shakes her head as she looks up at Cal.

"I can't believe anything you do anymore still surprises me." Gillian kisses Cal's lips and lays her head on his shoulder.

"I have a meeting I need to go to, I don't know when I'll be back."

"With who?"

"The DOJ, something about security." Cal nods and pushes Gillian away, kissing her softly.

"See you at home?" Gillian nods.

"Okay, make sure you leave on time, I don't want the babysitter calling me an hour after you were supposed to be there." Cal rolls his eyes.

"I'll be home on time, promise." Gillian kisses Cal again before leaving his office. She goes to her own office and grabs her bag before leaving the office and getting in her car.

---

Cal walks down the hall at around five, having already called the babysitter to let her know he was on his way. Heidi comes out from behind the reception desk, holding a phone out to Cal.

"Dr. Lightman…"

"Take a message Heidi, I have to get home."

"Dr. Lightman its…"

"Really Heidi, I have to get home."

"It's about Dr. Foster…there's something going on at the DOJ." Cal stops cold in his tracks, and turns around.

"What kind of something?"

"They wouldn't say, they want to talk to you directly." Cal takes the phone.

"This is Dr. Lightman."

"Dr. Lightman, this is Special Agent Kramer, I was calling to inform you of a hostage situation we are having down here at the DOJ."

"Is Gillian still inside?"

"Dr. Foster has been unaccounted for in escapees…we are under the impression that it's only her and the attackers in the building…you've been mentioned in negotiations that we've been having…"

"I'm on my way." Cal hangs up and hands the phone back to Heidi.

"Call my babysitter and tell her that I'll pay her two thousand for the night if she keeps the tv's off and stays with the kids."

"Of course, Dr. Lightman." Cal runs out to his car and gets in, speeding through the wet streets of DC towards the Department of Justice. He parks his car on the outside of the mob of police cars outside of the stone building before getting out and running towards the yellow tape that was keeping people away from the people inside, the cold of the DC winter not keeping anyone from watching the ongoing events.

"I need to speak to Agent Kramer."

"Over by the SWAT van Dr. Lightman." Cal runs over to the SWAT van.

"Agent Kramer."

"Dr. Lightman, I'm glad you could make it." Cal nods and shakes the man's hand as he offers it.

"What's the situation?"

"About an hour or two ago a squad of assumed terrorists stormed the building, most of the people made it out…I think they were targeting Dr. Foster in hopes to get to you. It seems like the general consensus we've been getting from our negotiation talks with them."

"What do they want?"

"The usual, money, plane out of the country, no repercussions."

"Is Gillian okay?"

"As far as we know, there haven't been any shots fired."

"Do we have any eyes?"

"Not yet, we're working on tapping the system. They've been calling out every few minutes or so."

"I want to talk to them the next time they do."

"Sure thing Dr. Lightman." Cal sighs and paces as he waits for the next phone call. After about 10 minutes an officer comes over to him.

"Dr. Lightman? We have them on the phone." Cal follows the man over to the negotiations van and takes the phone.

"Hello?"

"Dr. Lightman, so nice to talk to you again." The voice on the other end of the line sent chills through Cal's bones.

"Jenkins…"

"I never realized how pretty Gillian's eyes were…that clear blue color…they turn even bluer when she's afraid…did you know that?"

"What do you want Jenkins?!"

"I just wanna talk."

"Talk about what?"

"You come in here and I let Gillian go, and call my men off from your house…away from those precious kiddies of yours." Cal stays quiet for a moment before speaking.

"I'll be in…" Cal hangs up.

"You're about to get your eyes with a man that has no like for them." The agents brief Cal before suiting him up with a bullet proof vest under his shirt. He shakes out his sleeves and puts his coat on before heading towards the building, meeting a man at the front doors who was dressed in a bulletproof vest as well with a machine gun in his hands. He follows him inside after he cuffs his wrists together, leading him to where Jenkins was. The man himself was sitting in a leather chair, feet up on the desk in front of him, a superior look on his face as Cal was pushed in.

"Dr. Lightman."

"Where's Gillian?"

"On her way in right now." The door behind Jenkins opens and he grins.

"Here she is now." A man comes in, pulling Gillian behind him. There was blood leaking down the side of her face from a wound in her head, her eyes red from crying.

"Cal." Cal's heart broke a little as he heard Gillian croak out his name.

"It's okay Gill." Jenkins looks up at the man holding Gillian.

"Let her out." The man nods quietly before pushing Gillian through the room, and out into the rest of the building. He lets her go outside into the cold before barricading the door again. Gillian stumbles down the steps and to the trucks and vans, collapsing into sobs in the first arms to find her, her stockings getting wet in the snow.

Inside Cal looks in front of him at the man behind the desk as he stands, shifting his weight occasionally.

"What do you want?"

"I want what every man wants, I want to be able to walk the streets…without chains around my ankles and wrists."

"Maybe you should have made a couple better decisions in your life."

"I made plenty of great decisions Dr. Lightman; there are just a few people out there who don't think they're so darn great." Cal rolls his eyes.

"Okay so you want out of prison, no one in their right mind would let you out." Jenkins nods.

"I realize that, I need you to tell them that I am stable enough to be released…actually not them, but your partner." Cal shakes his head.

"No, not going to happen." Jenkins pulls out a gun, aiming it at Cal's head.

"Then we'll have to go to plan two."

"You're definitely not getting out of here if you think you're going to shoot me…You do think you're going to shoot me."

"I'm getting out of here no matter what, casualties or no casualties."

"The second you fire that gun a hundred SWAT guys are in here with their guns blaring."

"Won't be enough to save you, death would be instantaneous…and even if it wasn't you would be a vegetable." Jenkins cocks the gun and stares unwaveringly at Cal.

"You want to take that chance?"

Gillian jumps as she hears two gunshots go off, one right after the other. She jumps up from the ambulance and starts to run through the crowd as the SWAT team descends on the building.

"Cal!" Agent Kramer stops Gillian and holds her back.

"Gillian stop! You can not go in there right now."

"They shot him!"

"We don't know who got shot. You can not go in there right now and become a casualty." Gillian bursts into tears as she sinks to the ground, not caring about the snow beneath her.

Cal walks out of the building and takes the bullet proof vest off before tossing it on the ground, rubbing his chest where the bullet hit him. He walks down the steps with his usual gait, looking around before heading towards the barricade. He squats down next to Gillian and touches her shoulder.

"Love?" Gillian's head snaps up and she immediately grabs Cal and pulls him to her, wrapping her arms tight around him.

"Thank god." Cal wraps his arms around Gillian and holds her close, kissing her head softly.

"I've got you love." The two of them sit on the cold wet ground for a bit before Cal gets up and pulls Gillian up, wiping her tears away.

"Come on…let's go home…" Gillian nods and wipes her own face. Cal takes her to the car and helps her in before getting in himself and driving home. Once there he sends Gillian inside as he gets out his checkbook and writes out a check for their babysitter. He goes inside and gives it to her, thanking her before going upstairs. Gillian was already in the shower so he decided to check on the twins before going to Emily's room, kissing her head as he leans down next to her sleeping form. He goes into the bathroom and undresses before getting into the shower with Gillian, a bruise already forming on his chest. Gillian turns around and wraps her arms around Cal, kissing him deeply. Cal wraps his arms around Gillian and kisses her back hungrily as he holds her tight to him.

"I love you so much…"

"I love you too darling…" Cal buries his face to Gillian's neck and kisses her wet skin softly.

"So much."

---

Cal gets up off of the couch as he hears the doorbell ring. He looks out the peephole before opening the door smiling slightly at Agent Kramer as he shivers from the cold.

"Agent Kramer what can I do for you?" The agent holds up the purse and coat in his hands.

"Just bringing by Dr. Fosters things." Cal nods and takes the items from Kramer before shaking his hand.

"Thank you."

"Could we have a word tomorrow, and get statements?" Cal nods.

"Sure, I'll call you and let you know what we'll be doing tomorrow; I don't think we'll be going into the office."

"That's understood." Kramer gives Cal his card and smiles.

"Have a good night Dr. Lightman." Cal nods before going inside. He sets Gillian's stuff on the table by his door before returning to the couch and wrapping his arms around Gillian, turning their movie back on.

"What time is it?" Cal looks at his watch.

"Going on 11."

"We should go to bed." Cal rubs Gillian's shoulder.

"You sure love?" Gillian nods.

"Yeah, I think I'll be okay."

"Okay." Cal turns the tv off before getting up and helping Gillian up. He goes upstairs with her and lets her get in bed before getting in himself.

"What are we going to tell Emily in the morning?"

"The truth…and that everything's okay." Gillian nods and snuggles into Cal's chest before sighing softly.

"Night Cal."

"Night love."

---

Late the next morning Cal gets out of bed and goes downstairs, smiling as he smells pancakes cooking while the twins babble at Emily. He goes into the kitchen and smiles at Emily.

"Hey…"

"Hey Dad." Emily steps away from the stove and hugs her father.

"When did you get home last night?"

"Probably about 930 or so…"

"Late night?"

"You could say that…look Em…last night there was a thing…" Emily frowns as she turns the stovetop off, putting the plate of pancakes on the table.

"What kind of thing? You and Gillian are still together right?"

"Yea, yes we are. It was a different kind of thing.

"Dad just spit it out."

"Gillian was taken hostage at the Department of Justice…while she was at a meeting there. She's okay, she's upstairs, and the guys who did this are dead…but I just want you to know…"

"And you went in after her?" Cal nods.

"Yeah, they wouldn't let her go unless I came in…" Emily hugs her father tight.

"You're okay right?"

"Tip top shape." Cal kisses Emily's head.

"Gill's got a tiny cut on her head, but she's okay." Emily nods, looking up as Gillian comes down, wrapped in her robe. She smiles at Emily and smiles at Cal.

"Hey, do I smell pancakes?" Cal nods and pulls back from Emily.

"Yeah, Em cooked."

"Sounds delicious." Emily nods and pulls away from her father's arm before going to get plates. Cal kisses Gillian's head softly.

"How's it feeling love?"

"Fine." Gillian smiles and kisses Cal before going to sit with Emily and the twins.
