The interesting thing for me is how many of these opening lines make me want to go (re)read the stories -- surely the mark of a successful writer!

I know what you mean about feeling that you've told all the stories you have to tell about a given character or universe: always a sad feeling for me, to reach that point.

Thanks! (I actually had to read one or two of the older ones, as just from title alone I couldn't really remember what they were about).

Maybe one day I will re-watch VOY and fall in love once more.
