Hello, Internet, long time no see. (Assuming, of course, that anyone is still reading after all this time.) What have I been up to? Well, I am happy to say that I am currently healthier than I was last year, and I am no longer unemployed. So that's the (good news) RL update ( Read more... )

Rocky! So good to hear from you; great news on the RL front.

I don't know the Dollhouse fandom at all, but if it's a story by you, it will be a story worth reading. I'll check it out next week, after my houseguest heads home.

Thanks, Kelly! The premise of the show Dollhouse is that "actives" aka "dolls" aka young and good-looking individuals who have voluntarily or otherwise committed to doing this can be imprinted to become anyone or anything that a client requests. And then wiped afterward until the next commission comes in. Ultimately, when the terms of each one's contract is up, they are re-imprinted with their original personality and let go. (Or at least that is the theory). Adelle DeWitt is in charge of the LA Dollhouse and she's a character I think you would find fascinating. If you do read this story (and you're very sweet for offering to go plunging into unfamiliar fandom waters), just be advised it has a lot of spoilers for most of the show.

Hi, nice to have you back:) Glad your feeling better and enjoying some fandom time.

I still miss my evenings with the Lost gang. I don't Think we'll see show like that again.

I like Fringe but just don't love it, yet.

I'm a huge FF fan and I think if JW had more time the show would have evolved into something amazing.

I totally agree with this about Dollhouse:
"This show had more than occasional flashes of brilliance which make me wish it had had a few more seasons to unspin everything rather than have the ultra-condensed endgame)."
I'm looking forward to reading your FF.

Thanks! The funny thing is, I didn't even like the Lost characters at first, but they grew on me over time and I have dissolved in tears each and every time (up to 3 do far) I watch the finale. You're right, no other show has evoked that kind of response for me yet, though I do keep hearing that Fringe will eventually be worth it. Right now we're still slogging thru the gory case of the week that Walter somehow is connected to.

The last few Firefly eps, especially "Out of Gas" and "War Stories" and "The Message" were really good and I do now think it was a pity it didn't get its chance to evolve (and ease out or better develop the characters who didn't work for me, namely Inara, Book and River). But the beginning eps for the most part just didn't do it for me.

Hi Rocky! Great to see you're still around on LJ -- I'm a regular lurker but have just about abandoned posting since I always knew I'd be a one fandom wonder and Voyager fic seems dead and truly buried. I doubt my life is interesting enough to sustain a regular blog without the writing.

Glad to hear your health has improved, also new employment. I will have to Google Dollhouse, as this is the first I've heard of it.

Not sure if you ever got my new email address -- old ones now long defunct, but I will send you a news update if you'd like it.

Alex! So nice to hear from you! Yes, I would certainly love an update from you.

Dollhouse was a deeply flawed show, but there were truly moments when it transcended its problems and was simply amazing. When you check it out online (Wikipedia is a very good source), beware of spoilers just in case you ever decide you want to watch.

Dollhouse sounds an interesting concept which I would certainly be willing to try out if it ever airs here. I just wonder if all the female characters are Seven of Nine lookalikes? I have this fear it would be any male studio scriptwriter's (wet) dream fantasy to be able to indulge themselves and even get paid for a show like that. I see from Wikipedia it's from the same stable as 'Serenity', which I would also have watched, given the chance, but sadly, it didn't reach these shores either.

I've also reconnected with kellychambliss this week -- pure coincidence that she has paid a brief visit back to Voyager with a meme/discussion about Janeway that you might find interesting.

Newsy email will follow.

My nephew recently gave me a bunch of TV shows and movies he had on his computer so that's why my viewing has taken the direction it has. (Dollhouse is on the air here, but rather sporadically, at least I have trouble finding it when it is on). Apparently, the US network actually told Joss Whedon there was too much sex in Dollhouse and to tone it down(!). The show is not *just* about the sex, although I immediately informed my offspring that no one is watching it until they're 21, forgetting that 2 of them have already surpassed that milestone...they're not Barbie doll/Seven clones, although they are of course attractive (and the males are no exception). The lead character "Echo" is actually not nearly as interesting as some of the other actives, and of course Adelle DeWitt herself. At least in my opinion. Fortunately, while Echo does remain the focus throughout, the other 2 actives do get a lot of screen time and their backstories are fully fleshed out.
