I’ve often heard from people that I have a “good work ethic”. When I have a task to do, I try to be as thorough and complete as possible with it, and I try to do it as efficiently as possible. My approach to any assignment/task (work or school) always involves an evaluation of what exactly is expected from this/what are they looking for in the end

It is interesting that some people are satisfied doing the bare minimum, listening to ipods while they work and chatting on msn and fear that by doing actual work they are wasting their effort. I think it is really great that you enjoy earning your money and your grades. I'm a firm believer that people who embrace and rise to challenges can lead more meaningful lives. I don't think that this means you are too neutral or are being stepped on. At the end of the day, its your own fulfullment and satisfaction that you have to look after, not whether another person got the same pay check as you for doing less work (although that can be extremely irritating!).
Good luck on exams jon!

I agree with what she's said here, Jon. I think it's fabulous that you're really earning your way up. People always say that it's not the end product that matters so much as the journey, and I think the routes you choose seem honest and in that light honourable. I mean, it's fine if people want to slack off, but I admire you more for refusing to settle for that.
As for your neutrality, you remind me of a character from Agatha Christie's short stories... Mr. Satterthwaite. You don't want to be content as simply an observer of life, you want to participate in its drama, and play a part. I definitely understand where you are coming from here. Don't let fear force you to hold your personality back! You have so much to offer.
:) I hope you're well this holiday season... I haven't seen you in ages. Good luck with everything!

keep up the hard work and remember that there are people here rooting for you and your success. It's people like you who deserve to be surgeons, psychatrists, etc.

I'm a firm believer that people will do as good as they expect themselves to do. Do you expect yourself to do well in every aspect of life? Or is it that you're devoting so much of your time to things you expect yourself to do well at (music, work, school, etc.) that it SEEMS like you expect yourself to do well at everything?
I'm just wondering. I noticed that when I switched from doing poli sci (in which I totally slacked off) to journalism I started really applying myself more because I have my identity resting on my writing skills, and I feel competitive, like I actually have something to prove in journalism. I wonder if it's the same way with you and music/work/school/whatever?
