Rocky The Cat (real name Rocky Samuel H//////-C////) departed this life on 7 April 2012 at ~1730 hours. He was in the loving care of Rebekah and living with two feline friends, Grasshopper and Smokey (formerly Hobbs).

He was diagnosed on Friday with acute kidney failure by one vet, and I made a decision today in consultation with a second vet hospital that advanced care was unlikely to be effective and would put him through unnecessary suffering for no real benefit. This has been my long-standing decision with respect to Rocky, and it was difficult to adhere to when the time came, as it did today.

I would like to publicly thank all of the people with whom Rocky has lived during his life:

-- my grandmother Lucille M. who adopted him as the runt of the litter when living in a mobile home in San Diego, and graciously allowed Carol and I to adopt him when she could not keep up with a rambunctious kitten; she passed away in 2004.
-- my ex Carol H. and her mother Chiyo H. for their care for Rocky during extended periods in SoCal and NorCal respectively, particularly after a set of my parents passed away and while I was starting my career; I understand that Carol has now adopted cats and that Chiyo has also passed on, and in this have nothing but thanks and praise for both of them.
-- Tess and Rick for being a stalwart friend and hosting Rocky in their home for short intervals.
-- Diamond and Platinum (two Maltese dogs who pre-deceased Rocky) for not quite managing to eat Rocky despite the latter's calm demeanor and gentle disdain for their enthusiasm.
-- Chuck, Rachel and Debbie for guesting Rocky with them, and apologies to Arlene for kitty trespass.
-- Devon, Colt, David T., Tabitha and Jon for allowing Rocky to live with them at different times and in different situations. Others who have floated in, out and around various living situations who knew Rocky.
-- Chris O---, for taking very good care of Rocky while going through transitioning, and David W. for helping recover Rocky.
-- Lara for her care and support for Rocky during the interregnum, as well as felines M and S for their tolerance of an interloper
-- Chris C-----, Paul M. and my Southern California peeps who knew Rocky well when he lived down there, and also for helping put me back together at LAX after I put Rocky on a plane to Texas

I also want to thank everyone on Rocky's friends list, for taking such an interest in his life and times. I will be changing many of his posts to Public in the near future.

I know that Rocky loves all of you and will continue to do so from his new home in the Summerlands. There may be no heaven for the likes of me, but there certainly will be for him.

Last but not least, I wish to publicly thank Rebekah for her loyal and dedicated care of Rocky through many of and at the end of his days.
