Immigration

As I woke up from a nap and walked into the living room, the TV showed yet another rally of immigrants protesting against the House bill and in favor of Kennedy-McCain's bill. As I listened to what was being said, I realized how little I'm involved in an issue so important to my family, my future and myself. I know that it's easy staying at home ( Read more... )

There are parts where I agree with you and parts that I don't. But overall, you have a great perspective on things. And don't worry about not protesting. I guarantee you that many of the people who were in the streets of LA didn't know why they were there. I would bet that many of the people on the capitol steps of DC didn't know what the immigration bill details.

I admire you for working hard and making your dreams a reality. That's something to be commended for and it is because of people like you that I don't mind the immigration issue as much. Because you are the kind of person we need.

We need the hard-working, motivated people. With so many American kids today just wasting their lives, we need hard working people, of whatever race, to motivate us and to make us strive for greatness. And that is what you inspire.

Btw, what college are you going to?

Thanks a lot for your comment. I really appreciate your support, since I don't know where most of the people in AP classes stand on the immigration issue. I didn't expect a comment from someone like you, since I don't really know you that much, but it makes me feel better about writing that entry and expressing something that until now, was a well-kept secret.

Btw, I'm going to UCI, and that, for someone like me, means a lot.

I personally have a mixed opinion on the immigration bill, seeing as how my parents employ (what I think is) an illegal immigrant, but I do have to agree with Carrie here. We do need the motivated people in this country. It's such a shame that the majority of the Hispanics are illiterate, but we cannot blame the schools or the government for that. At the risk of sounding like Mrs. Middlebrook, if all the illegal immigrants were Rodrigos, I'd be all for giving them citizenship because Rodrigo, of all people, deserves citizenship.

Congratulations on making it into UCI and on your possible (more like probable) valedictorian status; it really is a great accomplishment for someone who learned English less than 4 years ago.

Never let go of your dreams, Rodrigo. If you do, you'll lose everything.

PS: I noticed that comment about Emily ;)
