I will just say this, a career counselor told me on Tuesday that the average person will work 64,000 hours in their lifetime. 64,000 HOURS!!! I can't imagine giving my life away for some company just so at the end I ( Read more... )

yes, I am in complete agreement!!! How can we be content with swimming in our own dreams, when people are slipping further and further away from truth. If we had the cure to cancer wouldn't we want to tell the world the cure?? Likewise, wouldn't we want to tell the world when we have the cure to eternal life?? keep it up!

Have you ever heard the cliche that when a doctor is sick, he can't heal anyone else?? For some reason, it doesn't seem so cliche at the moment. It seems applicable and reasonable. You can't help anyone else until your own heart is in the right place...

I understand the analogy you are using, but could you clarify for me why you are using it and what exactly you mean?

I just mean that sometimes all our efforts to present the gospel can be more harmful than helpful if they're coming from the wrong place. I'm not accusing you of anything, I just know that in my own life, sometimes I get too caught up in the "doing" when in reality my heart isn't in the right place and I lose focus of WHO I'm doing it for. It's hard to explain here.

I've never thought of the American dream as materialistic. My vision of the American dream was laid out in the Declaration of Independence. I feel that the inalienable rights given to man by God, "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" are the American dream. Or at least the ability to have the above. I think materialism is a side-effect of capitalism.

P.S. It's tough not tuff. :)

hey rhino!! (sp?) anywho, it was awesome working with such a dedicated and passionate soldier for Christ as yourself. i thank God for the enthusiasm he gave you out there. i'll be praying for ministries you have on your campus out there. can't wait to hear more glory stories.

i just bought the Casting Crowns cd and it's awesome. the 5th song is titled 'American Dream' and goes perfectly with your entry here. Check it out when you get a chance.

Let's get out there and call the students!!
