The young navigator herself had become very accustomed to the swell of people on the ship and loved it completely, it reminded her of the crowds of Moscow and of San Francisco. With a little wheedling and pouting she had managed to procure an orange from one of the mess hall staff, a favourite of hers. Grinning Pasha looked about for a place to sit, there didn’t seem to be many. Then she spotted Roger Korby sitting by himself, she had vague recollection of meeting him while little. Tina had seemed friendly with him.

Widening her smile she walked over, orange in hand and asked “Vould you mind if I sat here?”

"Not at all," Roger said crisply, scooting his own tray and strewn notebooks over as he looked over the young woman with an appreciative glance. My, Starfleet must be raiding elementary school rooms these days, from the look at her. Young.

Roger liked young.

"It appears we've managed to come at a busy time."

Pasha smiled, thanking him as she took a seat. Taking a quick glance around the mess hall she nodded. "Yes, it seems that eweryone had the same idea. I am sorry if I am disturbing you." It had been plain to see that he had been working before she had interupted.

She rolled her fruit around between her palms, warming it up before she peeled the skin. Fresh fruit was always something to be savoured.

He watched her palming the fruit, and raised an eyebrow. Cheeky. "No, not bothering me at all. Tell me, I'm sure you've heard this before, but-you seem rather young to be assigned here."

Ephram visited the mess hall frequently, since sooner or later nearly everyone on the ship could be find there and he still had people to meet with as well as interview. So far he had seen a new face nearly every time he stopped by.

Today was not an exception. Ephram noticed a man watching the people come and go almost with the same eye he himself did. Figuring it wouldn't hurt to make another friendly acquaintance of someone so curious, he stopped by the table.

"Hello," he said with a standard pleasant smile. "Another people-watcher, I see, and a new face. Are you newly-arrived on the Enterprise?"

Looking up from his notebook, Roger gave the other man an appraising look. "Recent, yes," he said with a nod to his head. Starfleet uniform, but not a soldier. The man gave off an air of the bureaucrat.

He held out his hand. "Roger Korby. Please," he indicated the other man should sit.

Ephram nodded his thanks as he sat opposite this Roger Korby. The way Korby had given him that appraising look had pinged Ephram's Intel instincts, even more so than the usual desire in the back of his mind to fulfill his orders. This could prove interesting.

"Ephram Green," he said, providing just as much information as this man had. Each of them could look up the other's records for more. He acknowledged the man's notebook with an upward tilt of eyebrow. "Any interesting discoveries?"

"More that I can enumerate. I'm a researcher," he said modestly. Many Academy students who planned on careers in medicine were familiar with his work on forensic immunology, his writings being required reading.

Not all people were lucky enough to have access to that, the poor dears. "This ship is a traveling buffet for people like me."

Em held onto her sandwich as she wedged her way through the crowd of ensigns and lieutenants hungry for a meal. Probably just caught them when shift just ended. she thought to herself. She had forgone the tray in hopes of not spilling anything or knocking anyone over and had finally made it past the crowd to be dismayed at the lack of private seating.

There was one seat open. She didn't recognize the man but figured she had a shot since everyone on board should be friendly. "Excuse me, mind if I take a seat here? Promise I'm a fast eater so you'd be back to your paperwork." she asked with a smile.

Take your time, he nodded absently at her, looking back down at his notes. A moment later, Roger glanced back up.

Older, yes, but lovely. Quite lovely, kept herself together, that was obvious. Not in uniform, either. "Busy in here today," he said politely, looking around.

Roger knew all about small talk.

Em glanced around as she ate as neatly and quickly as possible. "Yeah, guess it's the end of a major shift." she agreed. Maybe it was due to being in space that threw off her clock and had her eating and snacking all sorts of strange hours in the mess, but she had never seen the place this busy.

Roger nodded, watching her with a quirk on his lips. "In a hurry?"

Mr. Korby,

I would be delighted to speak with you. Any of the lounges or rec rooms would be acceptable, and my schedule is very flexible.

Jim Kirk

[OOC - Goodness, I'm sorry. This entirely passed me by. Where would you like to set this? Timewise, I mean?]

[ooc: timelines, what are those? Roger knows nothing of timelines. He is ephemeral that way. ♥]

Captain,

I appreciate your time. Perhaps we could meet later this afternoon? There is a lounge on Deck D that I've found to be fairly private.

I won't be too intrusive, I promise.

R Korby.
