[By this point, Zevran is just completely bemused by Mayfield. It's almost amusing, in a horrible, twisted way. He even sounds like he's biting back laughter.]

So...has anyone seen any yaks? Or is this in fact the easiest job I have ever been given?

I haven't seen any yaks. Have you seen any enemies of the state?

What would one look like, exactly?

Oh, it's a big animal! Wooly. And with horns. Or did you mean enemies of the state?

The latter. Though I have never seen one of the former either, I suppose...

'Fraid I haven't. [ John, evidently, was not the right person to ask, since he probably doesn't even know what a yak is. ]

Wouldn't know how an Olympic Gymnast'd go about winnin' ten gold medals in five days, would ya?

I have no idea what those things even are, I'm afraid. Though it hardly sounds like the sort of thing one can do twice a day, does it?

Not exactly, friend. [ He's not exactly savvy in the ways of Olympic Gymnastics, but winning two gold medals a day sounds like a tall order, and he obviously can't imagine anything favorable happening if he fails the quota. ]

You got any idea what'll happen if we don't make the cut?

Death, perhaps. Or droning. But neither are permanent states here, as strange as that may seem...though certainly not pleasant to experience, either.

It certainly sounds far better than most of the other jobs people have been stuck with. Not that it can be called much of a job when you aren't going to be paid properly.

I wonder if there is any incentive at all being offered, aside from not being punished?

I suppose if someone had any sort of pride in their community they might gain some satisfation from bettering it. I wouldn't. But there are some strange people out there.

I might have some pride if it were, in fact, my community.

I have not seen any yaks, comrade, but I'm sure a place as good as our homeland would have anything your heart desires.

[Zevran has never actually interacted with a drone of someone he knows before - though he's at least heard one speak before, via Olivier - so there's a pause before answering as he decides how to handle this. He's certainly not surprised Hughes has been droned, though, given their conversation...] I worry that perhaps it is not the proper climate...? [Read: can an appeal to logic work on drones at all? Let's find out.]

While one could think that, our nation would never unnecessarily give you a job you can't finish. Perhaps you are simply not looking in the right places, comrade.

Perhaps there are simply no yaks to be found, m - comrade? ['My friend' wouldn't really apply to a drone, anyway...] After all, they merely said to find any yaks there may be; if I report that there are none, that is still doing my job, yes? If there were any, then certainly I would let them know.
