Way to wait until the world is falling apart, Zev

[Well.

Zevran had been considering how to go about recruiting people for Olivier's army for days. Originally he'd actually intended for it to be cheerful, almost playful; certainly her side has enough seriousness as it is. Besides, she told him to be gregarious, and his baffling friendliness - in spite of his profession and many other factors ( Read more... )

Somehow I thought you might.

Look after yourself, regardless.

I intend to. And anyone else who needs it.

How many people can you protect by yourself, my friend?

What makes you think I should join such an army? I could destroy your entire rabble on my own.

Perhaps you could; I cannot say, knowing nothing of you. But however powerful you may be, you cannot destroy the ones we are actually up against quite so easily, can you? One assumes you already would have, otherwise.

If even your power is not sufficient alone, then pooling it together with the powers of others would be the next logical course, yes?

No, it would not be. Being paired with lowlifes would only hold me back. Prove to me you are strong and I may change my mind.

Perhaps you should prove yourself, first. I have nothing but your assertions that you are powerful, after all. And I cannot prove to you, as one man, the strength of our entire army. The only way to gauge that is to see us in action...and if you wait until after we have already fought, to whatever end, then how are you useful to us?

Pretty sure the woman's already got my name down, but I don't think I've heard yer voice before. Either way, I'm in.

You may have, you may not, but likely not officially like this. But I am glad to hear of your support!

Before we go any farther, Arainai, lemme get one thing straight. I've been fighting for as long as I can remember--I'm fifty years old, and back where I come from I was a General, so none of this... Recruitment-training thing, clear?

No worries, my friend! I am not in charge of training, and have a limited range of techniques I could pass on in any case. Certainly no one is going to waste time teaching an old veteran the basics of combat, when we have little enough time as it is.

[The voice is cold and professional.] Zevran; the Major General has spoken of you.

My name is Ciel. I would like to join you.

Has she? Dare I ask what she has said?

And you would be more than welcome.

That you are the man to speak to. Among other things, but we can spare the trifles tonight.

Are there any immediate plans to follow?

Certainly - though I hope to hear them at a later date, however unflattering I suspect they may be.

She has yet to speak on these most recent developments, but she had plans meant to come to fruition not long from now. How these matters affect them, I cannot yet say.

I would expect her to command some form of defensive measures shortly, however.

An army, you say?

[At pretty much any other time, she might have cracked a joke with him. However, his tone is deadly serious, and she will follow suit. After the night's communications, there's no reason to be anything but.]

I will join you.

I had hoped you would, my dear. It will be good to fight with you again.

Likewise, Zevran.

Where do you suggest I go to arm myself? Somehow I think the kitchen knives will not be sufficient.

Hmm...an excellent question. I may need to train you in the use of a gun personally, Leliana. Purchasing one should be no trouble, provided you have the funds; there is a store in town that sells them. Though...you may need a man to buy one for you. The drones here tend to frown upon any signs of independence in women, and I can hardly think they would let a woman purchase a gun for herself.
