Virn knelt before his brothers, leading the mid-day absolution. "Hallowed are the Ori. Hallowed are those who saved us, fed us, and showed us the true path."
The assemblage mummered, "Hallowed are the Ori," in reply, then stood and walked towards the rows of sarcophagi, where those the Priors deemed worthy of a fate worse than death were kept.
Virn slid the lid of the sarcophagi where his personal food supply was sleeping. She was as young as she was the day they'd brought her to him, screaming and defiant, even though last night she'd been hideously old. He touched her chest and her eyes flew open. She wasn't defiant, or even particularly sane, anymore, but she still knew what was about to happen.
"I should tell you..." Steven looked at the supply request list. "Climate is changing back home. O'Neill isn't going to be able to protect you much longer. Very soon, the order is going to come down to recall you. And not just you. Sheppard and McKay. Probably Beckett too. Is there anything you'd like to add to this lot?"
Elizabeth didn't even blink. She looked at her computer and messaged him a second file. It was entitled Plan Q - Emergency Secession, but Steven was just going to ignore that. "You know, we had some horrible flooding in storage. We lost most of our medicine and ammunition stock. I'd like to request an expedited return, Colonel. These supplies are crucial to this bases survival."
"I'll see what I can do, Elizabeth." He wanted to touch her, but he didn't. He would come back, and as many times as they let him, but this was never going to be his home.

"Please. No more. Please, just let me die."
He pressed his hand down. "Maybe tomorrow."
