I believe the fine print of the law states that it only applies to Shiite Muslims, which is only about 20% of the population.
Unfortunately, for those 20%, this is, well, I'm trying to find the appropriate word to give tongue to the utter disgust and rage I feel about this.
It's small comfort to know that even with this abomination made law, their lives are still better than when the Taliban was in power. Maybe not by much, and surely not where they should be.
It just makes me sick to my stomach to know this goes on in the world.
I know this may be a controversial statement, however, it really is not our place to intervene. Is it completely against the human rights we value? Yes. But America is also not the world police to tell other nations how they need to run. I am not in any way saying I agree with the laws that have been getting passed, trust me, it's very disheartening to be fighting for a people who are perfectly content in destroying each other.
For the record, we're also not over there to keep anyone in power. We are over there chasing insurgents who like to blow people up for fun.
