Saw a movie....

So while everyone in the free world except me was reading Harry Potter this weekend, I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with the husband. And honestly, we were saying that we are both now considering picking up the books too. I'm really going to have to go to a library or a used bookstore and get the first one. It's supposed to be a kids movie, but there is a ton of stuff in there that I think would just pass right by a young child

Classic Dahl, in other words. When I re-read Chocolate Factory about five years ago, I was just in awe at how easily he's so damned subversive while looking so innocent. Hee.

I will go see it, I think. I didn't at all like the Wilder version of Wonka, although I did enjoy the movie itself, but Depp doesn't seem to be my idea of Wonka either...but I'll see it. I'm keeping the Depp faith.

The annoying kids and their parents were perfect, and given our culture, more timely now that they were years ago. I swear to god I've run across those kids somewhere before. And I would say the Depp faith is totally worth keeping.

I think Depp is kind of his own version of Wonka. But it worked for me. I never saw the Gene Wilder version.
