Southland, Southland, Southland. A week later and my mind is still full of 2x03.
A firetruck! He got him a fire truck! To me, this has to go down in the fandom book of devotion. It's the Hand of Franklin! It is a trip to the Galapagos Islands. A bright red firetruck - it's like the best Christmas present you dream of as a child mixed with Cooper's very adult knowledge that Ben can't take another loss that day. He needs a win, even if he, Cooper, and the audience knows that the kid's shoes will probably be stolen again tomorrow and his dad will always be a dick but you can't save them all which just means you have to try harder to help the ones you can.
But you know the best thing about Southland? It's not just a slasher's delight. It is, IMHO, the best show on television right now. It is to cop dramas what Friday Night Lights is to football - which is to say, using one community to tell us about the whole world that we live in. Lydia (along with Kalinda in The Good Wife) is the BEST female character on TV. She is caring, intelligent and damn good at her job. Even the characters I hate I still *know*.
So, so good. And I really need more episodes and a LOT more fanfiction.
