This was sweet. Also, amazing that there's an actual place in NY called Valhalla. As a reader of Marvel's Thor, I was assuming it was the place in Norse mythology. Sorry for your loss.
The name of the community was inspired by a fan of the opera composer Richard Wagner. But you’re also right in that I based my Valhalla on the Norse mythology, and the golden tree Phyllis mentions is indeed Glasir.
Once “Valhalla” registers with her soul, she remembers what it means for herself and her family, who are buried there in the real world.
