This time of quarantine has really shown how important my family of choice is in my life and also how grounding it is to have my birth family. It’s nice to read about your adoptive family and how you hung strong together even through the loss of your mom. I can’t really know what it’s like not to have the same mom throughout life, but thank you for sharing some of your experience. It definitely makes me miss my grandmas.
Awwww, this is a really sad but also sweet piece. I'm glad you have Sondra in your life, even if she was never your official mother. Family by choice is so, so important <3
Oh, gosh. I hadn't realize you'd lost your adoptive mother while you were so very young-- I thought it was after you'd become an adult.
I'm so sorry things never quite worked out between your dad and Sondra. It does sound as if you enjoyed a lot of closeness with her, even if it wasn't quite to the full degree you'd hoped for all those years. And I'm so glad you called her, and were able to share some love with her. Your grandmothers sound lovely too, and it's nice that you and your brother had such special time and attention from them.
Your birth mother's and her family's decision to cut off contact is so tragic and sad. I'm so sorry.
Thank you. I wish I had had more time with my adoptive mom, Joan, but I’m glad for all the other influences in my life, as well as the excellent relationship my dad and I had. Thanks for reading!
Thank you for sharing this important part of your personal history. I did vote for your entry but was not able to comment at the time, as my phone was throwing a tantrum with livejournal. Now I wish I had pushed a few other people to vote for you because you truly deserve to continue :( I will miss your writing :'(
Thank you so much! I may do a few “home game” entries if inspiration strikes, and knowing me, I’ll be back next season for more of this strange brand of torture, lol!
