I just finished my teacher training for yoga and what I learned was that I talk to much. I, also, like to fix things (like this), but maybe the best thing is to just listen. Have him tell you stories or as stupid as this sounds- sit in silence over a phone because sometimes just knowing a person is there is good enough. I know this a personal thing are these complications with diabetes? If so you may want to check out the American Diabetes Association and here about some of their members stories and see how they relate.

As for my characters- umm, I only have 2 in OWbN: Radha Jai (Setite and yogi) and Skye Ellyllon (Tremere and Quaker), Sophia just died (Sabbat infiltrator)

I have been making the same observations lately about mortality. I saw uncles I haven't seen in years, who can now barely walk...I also see their sons (my cousins) looking more like the ages of uncles that I recall as a kid...

Mortality is scary indeed, but perhaps our one solace in all of this is that this process has been happening since the first human beings crawled out of caves and invented rock-rock-rock, followed later by rock-rock-paper, and then evolved into today's modern rock-paper-scissors...

As an aside - you could have also called to just NOT talk about his leg. I love doing that to folks in tough times - you just call them like it's a plain phone call and let them talk about it...or not. It isn't necessarily fake either, you're just being selective about your discussion topics. I had a friend whose father passed, just shortly after my grandmother did, and both were crazy Irish revolutionary nationalists. So all we did was talk about crazy Irish fanboy stuff, and it was great. Sometimes it's just the fact that you called...and your presence is a very positive one on it's own, my man!
