Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Blake Lively as Carol Ferris (iffy, we'll see) Peter Sarsgaard as Dr. Hector Hammond and Jackie Earle Haley as Sinestro?
My most frequent complaint about genre films is that they so rarely seem to cast female leads capable of holding their own against the men. It actually pulls me out of the story when the mismatch is so glaring.
Jon Favreau's earned the benefit of the doubt after escaping that trap with Gwyneth Paltrow. But it's happened so often, I've learned to be extremely wary.
I've heard the same thing, and I'll confess that I've only seen her in a few things. (The Prestige, The Spirit, getting groped by Isaac Mizrahi...) But based on those and her recent choice in roles, I'm not real impressed.
Then again, that's why Favreau gets her the benefit of the doubt. From what I've seen she's about as good as her directors.
The Hal and Sinestro casting I can see working. I have no idea who those other two people are. The names sound vaguely familiar.
I do agree with your point about Reynolds regarding the Amityviulle remake, though the movie itself wasn't that great, I did think it showed a bit more range than his usual "I'm the snarky guy" role. Still, I reserve judgement on his am Hal until I see a trailer or some proof that he has the acting chops.
Personally, I think Ryan Reynolds is a great choice. He is a really talented actor who has had some pretty cheesy roles, I'll admit, but the chops are definitely there.
Seems the early rumors were wrong. It's now being reported that Mark Strong (Lord Blackwood in Sherlock Holmes) will be cast as Sinestro.
In which case... I like it. Strong had some serious charisma going in there, a fantastic blend of dignity and menace. Seems perfect for Sinestro of Korugar.

As for Paltrow, yeah, she's doing a good job so far.

Or the Nines? Did you see that? I think you might like that.

They could have simply cast him as Kyle and it'd be perfect-er.
