while i am totally ok with not getting a single one (unless i felt there was something wrong that an us could reliably predict, and lead us to a remedy) i can respect getting a few for diagnostic purposes.
the article i mentioned specifically talks about women getting them... at leisure. buying/renting equipment to perform it at home, etc.

i meant to add, that its sort of like (imho) the recent statement (i only heard about this on npr, so excuse me if im not completely informed) about getting mammograms before the age of 40. this group says its not worth it, while the cancer, dare i say industry? says its totally worth getting 500 false positives to "save one life". i dont think its a secret, that mammograms, like nearly every other medical testing, treatment, etc. does not come without risks. so personally i dont think they should be routine at such a young age, but of course, if one feels as though it would be beneficial for them, by all means, get one! i love choice. especially informed choice. but im not sure there are many ob's in america (if any) that would be ok with a woman saying she wanted no us, or even doppler, her entire pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
I believe that whoever or whatever created us did not intend on us seeing babies before their birth- if we were intended to see what sex, size, shape color, etc our babies were the belly would have been made a clear window. This being said I was on the medical band wagon at one point and had US with both pregnancies. I have no idea if it effected my children. Who the hell knows maybe it causes autism!
of course, i got not one, but 2 us with a, and who knows how many Doppler monitoring.
like you, i dont know if that affected her or not. obviously i didnt miscarry, which is one of the things they talk about it increasing on early term women. (of course, i also didnt acknowledge my pregnancy and see a physician until i was well into my 2nd trimester)
so yeah, such is life. whatever. im no longer down with us. im a nut and feel confident that anything i really need to know, i can find out by listening to my body/baby. otherwise, its meant to be a mystery.
