Doula-ing, Part II

The second birth I attended was even more difficult to process than the first one. I don't often lose sleep due to emotional disturbances, but I did after this birth, which is saying a lot.( Read more... )

That is horrible. Kati is really brave, and you are too, for willing to be there for these women when you know the possibilities.

One of my friends here, during her (incredibly long) labor, actually kicked the doctor on duty out of the room and got another one, just because she didn't like his attitude. Is that possible to do in Hungary?

I was horrifying my midwife the other day just by telling her that births are still frequently done with the woman lying down in the US. I'll have to tell her about this when I see her tomorrow.

Then again, she told me I should stop listening to birth stories after my due date, so she'll probably yell at me... :)

On the subject of my first sentence, I just wanted to say, think how much more horrible it would have been if you hadn't been there. I'm sure there are lots of women who have to go through these kinds of things without even a doula.

I'm glad you are there helping those women, even though this week I selfishly wish you were here... :)

I really wish I could be there, too... :-/ I hope you have a wonderful birth! And you probably SHOULD be stocking up on positive birth stories. Go re-read Ina May. Shoo. :)

(I actually seriously just started trying to figure out how I could possibly make it up there for your birth... ack...)

Stop that! :) I could go into labor any minute! One of my friends gave birth last Sunday morning at 1:30 am, after announcing at 6:45 pm that she'd see us the next day for dinner. You'd get here and it'd be over. Well, at least you'd get to see the baby :).

I'll keep you updated, at least!

I came across your journal, was wondering if you'd like to become friends.
