A little help from my computer savvy friends, please?

Here's the sitch ... on Friday evening I attempted to scan some pictures into my computer ... when I launched the HP Imaging software, an "Internet Explorer Script Error" window popped up ... it detailed the line at which this error occurred and then said "do you want to continue running scripts on this page? It sounds like your installation of IE is bad. Try running Windows Update manually and see if there are any optional installs you can do. It might be that those windows updates that were downloading were mucking with what you needed. Make sure everything is updated and then try it again.

Unfortunately, I can't run windows update manually because I can't connect to any web pages via the internet. When I uninstalled the service pack 2 update for WinXP to attempt to reinstall IE6 (MS website said it was a package deal), the windows updater ran automatically when I restarted my computer ... now I have no access to any diagnostic tools or downloads that access the internet.

Yerch. Fucking microsoft. I guess absolutely everything has to run through IE - what a great design decision.

Let's see - you could try booting from your install CD and repairing the installation. There also should be a feature somewhere in XP that lets you roll back your installation to a previous version - but I run 2000, so I wouldn't know where. I'm afraid that's where my helpfulness with XP ends :-( Sorry...
