Well I’m terrified of these four walls
These iron bars can’t hold my soul in
All I need is you
Come please I’m callin’
And oh I scream for you
Hurry I’m fallin’
Then I heard someone cry...
It came to me like a blur. All I felt was pain... cold... And crying. There was a lot of crying. I saw him wake, saw him shivering in his bed, cold sweat and cold tears. I knew something that difficult was hard to forget. Part of me wanted to do something for him but what could I do, really? I wasn't what he needed.
I remembered when we brought him to his room after that day. I remembered how much he cried out for one person... someone who wasn't there. Who could blame him, really? He didn't know what happened. No one did 'til it was almost too late. I was glad we could save him. I remembered running beside the medics as they wheeled him into the emergency room. I remembered him screaming in pain, screaming for someone who wasn't there. I remember crying because he had cried his tears all out already.
Come please I’m callin’
I remembered seeing him on the battlefield. I remembered seeing the blood covering his skin. Again, he called out, again he cried, again we heard nothing. He lay in bed that night, servants bathing his skin and washing the blood away. He cried out til his body finally succumed to fatigue.
Tonight, I sit by his side, where someone else should be. I take his hand, telling him I need him to stay. He looks at me and pauses a moment as if trying to see through the darkness of his room. He sees my wings and turns his head away, gently drawing his hand out of mine. I shake my head. There is nothing I can do.
He lowers his head as I draw away and suddenly reaches for my hand. I just stand there, scythe in my other hand as I watch him. I hear him whisper.
"But... I'm right here..."
And oh I scream for you
Hurry I’m fallin’
