**If I were to give my best advice to anyone it would be to regulate your participation. No one likes watching or dealing with a burn-out. I'd say it is essential for mental health to notice when your energy is turning primarily to the negative and to stop and evaluate why that is. It is okay to take breaks and keep some distance from events if you there is a possibility you'll take the nuclear option with your friends and group. The SCA will be there when you feel like ramping back up again, and it will be easier on everyone if we can skip the eyeroll when you return after the flameout and the promise to "never again SCA". I understand why it happens, but I think we just could be better about explaining that love for self must come before love for the SCA. Sometimes I think that people have so much vested that they despair when they get to the all or nothing point - and it isn't really necessary to pull out totally ( ... )

Hmmm...things we did 20 years ago, but we forget sometimes... :) I don't think it's all that bad to remind people of some of the basics--things that create an air of nobility and courtesy, and help the newer folk ( ... )

Yeah! What she said. BTW the asshat in question was at practice last night and I was certain to give him stink eye and cold shoulder on your behalf.

Ah yes but ignoring it also encourages him to be an even bigger asshat. I? am good with dealing with his stupidity in an active fashion and making it clear he is welcome if he is NOT being an asshat. Not so much otherwise.

I don't know how you'd work this in, but one of my pet peeves is merchants who merchant crap or vaguely period crap (went to Goodwill, found this cool wooden thing, sell it as period). That might be for another venue, but I see it as perpetuating buying the wrong thing instead of a more correct period reproduction. And yes, I know everyone has to start somewhere, but sheesh!!

AH! I knew I missed one! THIS makes me nuts NUTS!

We are actually currently working on a plan to try to discourage "crap" merchants by giving our Royal Commission to merchants who are good and then giving those merchants the choice spots and first pick for sites with limited space. Still working it out but that's the plan.

Crap merchants make me MENTAL.

Sorry.
