Sadly, this is not a joke.

I just wanted to spread the word of what goes on here in Quebec.

Man, that sucks. I don't know what to say to those guys, but that I hope the politicians get a clue.

Personally, I think I'll head over there tomorrow if I can, and buy something just for the sake of it.

A bit of a commute for me, but I rated up (liked) the youtube video. Maybe if enough folks up-rate it this will get onto boing-boing or get more widespread attention.

Thanks! I do hope this gets more exposure.

I'm hesitant to drag this community into political issues, but I want the separatists to realize that you don't f*ck with gamers!

What stupid, backwards regulations. Way to shoot yourself in the foot, Quebec! I don't even know if Americans are that xenophobic about Spanish speakers.

They are, but it's mostly in the form of racism toward Mexicans. And not to the point of having language police. That's just ridiculous!

Some Americans--including some members of my family--become irate when presented with a language choice at ATMs, during automated phone business, etc. There are people who insist that English is the language of America, and if you live here, you must speak English. I bet a lot of people would LOVE Quebec-style policing to be done here, but I also don't think it would fly, though I can't presently articulate why I think so. Just a feeling. :B

Anyway, to the OP: This is almost unbelievably ridiculous, and I almost would have thought it a joke if I hadn't heard something about language policing a long time ago. I wonder if it would mean anything to that shop if I were to buy something from them online. They have the most extensive collection of Munchkin stuff I have ever seen. o.o

Regardless, I will spread the word about the situation. (I found articles from 2008. This must have been going on for a long time, indeed.)
