Blurring the in-game/meta-game ethics line

So, in the wake of my last campaign (which was awesome), we've started a new one. D&D 4e again, same world -- the players can see the effects their PCs have had on the world, and some of their characters' children are still influential NPCs here and there. I have also had it work out amazingly. he was an infernalist called morgan. The players still hate him. It was, like, 10 years ago... It makes for amazing drama. Just make sure they eventually get their deserved revenge and it is sweet. ;)

Oh, I hope so. If things go the way I hope they do, I'll be playing the NPC with this party for a couple of years real-time. Last campaign, the characters advanced a tier every year and a bit (the whole game from 1st to 30th level was just under three and a half years). I hope to finally reveal his duplicity either late in the Paragon tier or early in the Epic one, which means at best, he'll have been a member of the party in good standing for over two years.

Unless he is revealed earlier, which I'm prepared for. But ideally, if things go as planned (ha; when does that ever happen?), I hope this will be just as memorable as Morgan. :)
