There's another scene in the sample adventure where a local lass and a Spaniard are found in a barn "partially clothed and fully loaded". A successful hearing test results with a variety of muffled sounds.

I also had another chuckle when the rules said that a sailor must have a canteen of rum or equivalent per day or lose 2 points of Emotional Stability.

The author was having a bit of fun, for sure.

Oh man, I simply want to play this as completely straight and literal. As in, after months at sea, a sailor desperately desires above all else polite conversation about the latest literary trends. And after months upon months of grog and hardtack, crumpets with clotted cream is heavenly.
