Bring Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell with you next time- I loved it and it's hefty enough to give you a good few days' reading. Better than random picks that end up less than lucky. : P

China Mieville's books are set in London even when they're not set in London - cf Perdido Street Station.

The Scar is obviously set in a floating london, and Iron Council set in a london which is a steam train. Clearly.

While I loved PSS, I found Iron Council got off to a very slow start, and put it aside for the moment. How does it compare?
